  • Elon Musk’s endorsement of Kekius Maximus – making it his Twitter name – led to a 4,000% surge.
  • However, the meme coin fell into the pits of despair once Musk removed it from his profile.
  • Meanwhile, Musk’s aggressive online demeanour prompted a response from Vitalik Buterin over censorship and freedom of speech.

Meme coins and Elon Musk – name a better duo.

The renowned Dogecoin lover recently found himself a new obsession: Kekius Maximus. In fact, the Tesla CEO took things to the next level when he changed his Twitter handle to the coin in question.

The project surged on the back of Musk’s appreciation, jumping nearly 4,000%.

This, of course, made things rather humorous to see Elon discussing serious matters (with no shortage of curse words) under the pseudonym Kekius Maximus.

In an unfortunately rare moment of self-awareness, Musk realised that this looked rather ridiculous and eventually reverted to his real handle – and the market plummeted as a result.

Kekius Maximus: A Meme Coin’s Dramatic Fall

Kekius Maximus fell nearly 75% upon Elon’s name change, leading to millions upon millions of “paper gains” being wiped.

The new project is a combination of several different memes, including a character from Gladiator, Pepe the Frog and the “lol” alternative, “kek”.

Trading volume for the coin has also fallen off a cliff since Musk dumped the moniker.

Musk’s Hiring Practices Stoke Heated Debate as Vitalik Buterin Weighs In

While all of this was going on, Musk was involved in far more serious matters – even going so far as to invoke commentary from Ether developer Vitalik Buterin.

Elon was involved in a heated debate over the past week regarding hiring international tech workers in American companies.

Musk, who was vehemently for this practice, found out that several conservative and Trump supporters weren’t quite so fond of it.

However, upon discovering that Elon was banning users who deigned to disagree with him, Buterin decided to voice his concerns.

Essentially, Buterin advised Elon to temper his language and be careful with censorship – especially considering he purchased Twitter to promote “freedom of speech”.

He notes that the language used by leaders ripples throughout society, and treating discourses as war rather than a discussion toward progression is harmful.

I admire your willingness to stand up and fight for freer movement of people, it’s an important freedom that all too easily gets thrown under the bus.

That said I think it’s valuable to turn down the temperature here, on both tone of discourse and the social media banhammer.…

The role of leaders in setting the tone is really important, and can be used to great good or great evil. It’s not “wartime mode” that will get humanity to Mars in one piece, it’s something brighter – and we should get into that mode today.
