Months ago, he dismissed the sector as scammy and worthless, but he has come around and realised the potential of crypto – at least the potential to collect some votes.
Trump: Jamie Dimon Changed His Tune
Now, Trump is turning heads again with another interesting statement. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan and known for his less than favourable opinion on bitcoin – after all he called it a pet rock – could potentially become Treasury Secretary in a Trump administration.
According to a report by Forbes, Trump said Dimon “has all of a sudden changed his tune”, on bitcoin and co.
Dimon spearheaded JP Morgan’s development of its own blockchain and coin, the JPM coin, but has generally been overall negative towards permissionless systems like bitcoin. Speaking earlier to Bloomberg, Trump noted that Dimon’s mindset has changed, as observed during their meeting.
During the meeting, Trump must have detected a shift in Dimon’s thinking. The former president described the event as a ‘love fest’ and noted that it featured 80 executives, including Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, as well as the leaders of Bank of America and Citi.
Jamie Dimon was, you know, very negative and now all of a sudden he’s changed his tune a little bit.
It also seems that Trump could picture Dimon as his Treasury secretary in case he is elected again, adding that “he has a lot of respect for Jamie Dimon”.
Trump Teases More NFTs, Stresses US Crypto Leadership Role
Trump is also reinforcing his support for NFTs, planning to release more Trump-themed non-fungible tokens due to the popularity of previous issuances. These have included trading card-like NFTs featuring him in various poses and outfits, some offering perks like a dinner with him.
I did it three times [and] I’m going to do another one because the people want me to do another one.
The Republican nominee also underscored how important his support for crypto is. Without it, he believes others – with perhaps different agendas – will step in and take a leadership role.
If I throw it aside, it’s going to be picked up in another country, most likely China — they’re pretty advanced in that sphere.
