Solana Mobile has officially ended software and security support for its Saga smartphone, concluding the device’s lifecycle much sooner than typical industry standards. The first-generation Saga, which launched in May 2023 with an integrated crypto wallet and a decentralised app store, will no longer receive updates, leaving its roughly 20,000 owners with devices exposed to future security vulnerabilities and potential compatibility issues with apps.
Customer support has been limited to “general inquiries” only, according to a community manager in Solana Mobile’s Discord, effectively freezing the device’s development. The company expressed gratitude to Saga users, describing their input as “invaluable in shaping the next chapter of Solana Mobile.” The phone’s final software upgrade was Android 14, released in 2023, with its last security patch delivered in November 2024.
Originally priced at US$1,000 (AU$1,533) and later reduced to US$599 (AU$917) following slow initial sales, the Saga faced a challenging market debut. Demand picked up later after preloaded wallets received memecoin airdrops, generating significant rewards for owners. Despite this surge, total sales reached only 20,000 units, falling short of the company’s 50,000-unit target.

Saga Struggles in the Market
The Saga’s two-year support period is notably shorter than that of mainstream mobile devices, with Apple typically providing five years of updates and Google offering seven for its Pixel phones. While the device remains operational and its crypto features continue to function, the absence of updates raises increasing concerns about security and app reliability.
With the Saga sunset, Solana Mobile has shifted focus to the second-generation Solana Seeker. Launched in August 2025, the Seeker has already received over 150,000 pre-orders and offers upgraded features, a lower launch price of US$500 (AU$766), and a native ecosystem token called SKR aimed at incentivising builders and users.
The end of Saga support underscores the difficulties of maintaining crypto-native mobile devices and represents a full pivot for Solana Mobile towards next-generation hardware.
