Immutable (IMX) is set to enhance its ecosystem by introducing IMX staking on the Immutable zkEVM platform, beginning June 19, 2025. This move allows IMX token holders to stake directly on zkEVM, aligning with a shift in the rewarding structure that aims to recognize active engagement within the Immutable ecosystem, according to immutable.com.
Transition from Immutable X
Immutable has been distributing staking rewards on the Immutable X platform, with a total of 4.8 million IMX tokens allocated to the community, averaging 67,605 IMX weekly. However, with the transition towards the zkEVM platform, staking on Immutable X will cease on June 19, 2025. All funds will be automatically unstaked and returned to users’ wallets, marking the end of the 73rd epoch.
To continue earning rewards, users must transition their staked IMX to the zkEVM platform. They can either bridge their funds immediately or wait for an automatic transition post-merge of the Immutable X and zkEVM chains. However, manual staking on zkEVM is necessary for reward eligibility.
Staking and Rewards on Immutable zkEVM
The new staking mechanism on Immutable zkEVM involves a fortnightly rewards cycle. Participants need to trade at least one NFT on a marketplace integrated with the Immutable zkEVM orderbook and must have staked IMX during the cycle. The rewards, derived from 20% of protocol fees, are calculated based on the amount and duration of staked IMX tokens.
Immutable zkEVM also introduces support for Passport wallets and other major wallet types, including hardware and EOA wallets like Metamask. WalletConnect support will be added in the future.
Migrating IMX to zkEVM
To facilitate the transition, IMX holders can use a bridge to move their funds to zkEVM. The recommended method involves using Layerswap to bridge directly from Immutable X. Alternatively, users can bridge IMX to Ethereum before transferring to zkEVM. After bridging, users need to stake their IMX on the zkEVM staking page, which goes live on June 19, 2025.
