The Hong Kong Monetary Authority alerts the public to fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens linked to DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a critical alert regarding fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens associated with DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. This warning comes as part of the HKMA’s ongoing efforts to protect the public from increasing cyber threats targeting banking customers.

Fraudulent Activities Identified

According to the HKMA, multiple reports have surfaced regarding fake websites and login screens purporting to be part of DBS Bank’s online services. These fraudulent sites aim to deceive users into divulging sensitive personal information. The HKMA has made the public aware of these threats through a press release available on their website.

Public Advisory

In light of these developments, the HKMA stresses that legitimate banks, including DBS Bank, do not send SMS or emails with embedded links directing customers to perform transactions. Furthermore, banks will never solicit sensitive information, such as login credentials or One-Time Passwords, through phone, email, or SMS.

Action for Affected Individuals

Individuals who suspect they have interacted with these fraudulent sites or have provided personal information are urged to contact DBS Bank immediately using the official contact details provided in the bank’s press release. Additionally, they should report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre at 2860 5012.

Broader Implications

This alert highlights the persistent challenge of cybersecurity threats in the banking sector, underscoring the need for continuous vigilance by both financial institutions and their customers. As cybercriminals become increasingly sophisticated, regulatory bodies like the HKMA play a crucial role in disseminating timely information to safeguard the public.
