Pixels, a farming and social game built on the Ethereum-powered Ronin network, is set to launch its new competitive season, Spore Sports.
Scheduled to run from December 10, 2024, to March 4, 2025, the event will offer US$4M (AU$6.2M) in PIXEL tokens as rewards, attracting players to engage in a guild-based competition centred around mushroom cultivation and strategy.

Pixels founder and CEO Luke Barwikowski said in a statement to Decrypt:
This season builds on the success of our inaugural Guild Wars, which resulted in more PIXEL being burned than distributed, and incorporates feedback to deliver an even more rewarding experience. With this event, we’re experimenting to find out what’s possible in Web3 gaming and laying the groundwork for regular, large-scale competitions that will create a positive outcome for the ecosystem.
Luke Barwikowski, Pixels CEODuring the three-month event, players will collaborate and compete in activities such as growing and harvesting mushrooms, sabotaging opponents’ crops, and climbing the leaderboards. Rewards are based on both individual and team performance, with participants earning PIXEL tokens, Guild Runes, and exclusive in-game items.
The event will also introduce tier-4 Ultimate Items, described by the developers as powerful game-altering artifacts. These items can be unlocked through specific activities in the Cave Hub Map, adding a strategic layer to gameplay.
How Pixels Functions
Pixels incorporates a dual-currency system, in which coins serve as the primary in-game currency for general purchases and upgrades earned through gameplay. The native $PIXEL token, with a total supply of 5 billion, provides access to premium features, such as energy boosts, faster build times, and new character skins.
As the player, you can personalise your gaming experience by using non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from prominent digital collections as in-game avatars.
You can also own land in the form of NFTs as well, which as you may have guessed, brings you several benefits, including earning rewards from the activity on your land and allowing full management of plots. But owning land is optional and not a requirement to play as such.
PIXEL is currently priced at US$0.28 (AU$0.44), a 7.9% increase from yesterday and 88.1% in the last 30 days.

Pixels has established a decent user base of over 8 million, with over 180K daily active players. The developers aim to expand the game further by introducing new features, including pets, combat systems, and enhanced farming capabilities in the near future.
