Web3 gaming has arguably been stagnant in terms of both interest and major releases. Forgotten Runiverse is attracting attention again with its MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) release. The game offers a rich open-world experience based on its Ethereum NFT collection.
It’s worth noting that Forgotten Runiverse was initially building to launch on Arbitrum, a layer-2 Ethereum network, but opted last year to instead migrate to the Ronin Network, known for its focus on blockchain gaming.
Ronin also highlighted that Forgotten Runiverse has been in development for three years with over one million hours of test gameplay, all of which has contributed towards this live release. Gamers may also be thrilled to learn that Forgotten Runiverse has been approved for development by Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation.

What is the Game About?
‘Moonlit Winds’ is the first update available in the Forgotten Runiverse game, which is set to expand further in the future. Users will be able to access NFT plots, build structures, craft and mint in-game items, explore the open world in-game, undertake quests, learn spells, and earn rewards.
Blockchain gaming has generated excitement in users, due to the ability to genuinely own and trade in-game assets. Forgotten Runiverse exemplifies this concept in practice.
Besides being able to earn QUANTA in-game, an airdrop of QUANTA is also available for those who helped test the game. There have been several rounds of test-net gameplay before this main-net launch. QUANTA is the in-game currency of Forgotten Runiverse which can be spent, held, or eventually claimed for another token called XP which is still set to launch.
Note, Forgotten Runiverse, while live, is still expected to remain in early access for some time, with the full version of the game set to bring significantly more polish and content over time.

Web3 gaming has lost traction in recent years, at least in terms of retail attention and comparative altcoin growth, despite development efforts powering ahead.
However, despite choppy markets, blockchain gaming has attracted US$55 million (AUS$87 million) worth of investments in February 2025 alone.
Another notable game launch, Off the Grid, which has recently attracted large doses of attention, also boasts the cross-console inclusion of PS5, Xbox, and PC.
