Ethereum is now accepting applications for the Next Billion Fellowship Cohort 5, a program designed to leverage blockchain technology for solving real-world challenges.
Ethereum has announced the opening of applications for the fifth cohort of its Next Billion Fellowship Program. This initiative, which aims to highlight and support projects leveraging Ethereum’s blockchain technology to address societal challenges, is now seeking new applicants, according to the Ethereum blog.
Understanding the Next Billion Fellowship
The Next Billion Fellowship Program is designed to spotlight compelling narratives that demonstrate Ethereum’s impact on communities worldwide. Past fellows have undertaken diverse projects, such as implementing digital badges and wallets for scouts globally, enhancing crop insurance for Kenyan farmers, and utilizing decentralized systems amid humanitarian crises in Syria.
The program spans six months and offers participants project funding, mentorship, access to Ethereum’s extensive network, and opportunities for exposure. By focusing on real-world applications, the fellowship seeks to transform Ethereum from a mere technological concept into a practical tool for societal benefit.
Application Details
Interested candidates are invited to apply by January 12, 2025. Submissions received after this deadline will be considered for the subsequent cohort. The application process is designed to identify innovative projects that can harness Ethereum’s capabilities to create meaningful change.

- April 2025 – October 2025: Fellowship program for Cohort 5, alongside Cohort 6 application reviews.
- September 2025 – March 2026: Fellowship program for Cohort 6.

Ethereum is also offering two “Office Hours” sessions during the application period for interested parties to learn more about the program. These sessions will be held on December 11, 2024, at 07:00 UTC, and January 8, 2025, at 15:00 UTC. Registration is available online for those wishing to participate.
