Former US president and current Republican Party nominee Donald Trump says he wants to make the US the “crypto capital of the planet”, according to a video message posted on X on Thursday.
While Trump did not provide specific details about his plans, he reassured a more profound commitment to the digital asset space. In the post, he also tagged World Liberty Financial, a decentralised finance (DeFi) project actively promoted by Trump and his sons, especially Eric.
Information about the project remains limited, but the website’s metadata describes it as “the only crypto DeFi platform supported by Donald J. Trump”, designed to offer users access to secure, high-yield crypto investments through decentralised finance tools.
Alex Golubitsky is the lawyer who filed the trademark papers for World Liberty Financial in mid-July, which points to an association with DeFi, as confirmed by CoinDesk.

Trump’s move wasn’t unexpected (at least not entirely), as the former president has already shown his growing interest in crypto, DeFi, and even AI. The news also comes a few days after the Republican candidate launched his new digital trading cards — 250 NFTs, each depicting Trump in different ways, including a cowboy or as a sort of Captain America type of hero.
The Crypto Elections
Just recently, pro-crypto and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pulled out of the presidential race and decided to endorse Trump, potentially strengthening the Republican candidate’s position in swing states where Kennedy had requested the removal of his ballot.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris might be looking to support crypto-friendly policies and push innovation forward in the US, but that’s just according to Brain Nelson, a senior campaign advisor.

However, the crypto community received the statement with mixed reactions. One side remains sceptical, calling it a lie or requesting direct confirmation from Harris herself, while some believe she may eventually embrace crypto.
