Chainalysis identifies a massive cryptocurrency payment infrastructure tied to a major CSAM site on the dark web, revealing over $530,000 in transactions since July 2022.

Chainalysis has successfully identified a significant cryptocurrency payment infrastructure linked to one of the largest child sexual abuse material (CSAM) websites operating on the dark web, according to a report by Chainalysis. The investigation uncovered that since July 2022, the site has received over $530,000 in cryptocurrency payments across more than 5,800 addresses.

Investigation Initiated by UK Law Enforcement

The investigation was triggered by information provided by UK law enforcement. Using this initial lead, Chainalysis expanded the investigation through on-chain tracking, proprietary heuristics, and investigative software, leading to the identification of a vast payment network. This network, consisting of over 5,800 addresses, highlights the scale and ongoing nature of the illegal activities.

Features of the CSAM Site

The CSAM site offers multiple paid membership plans and utilizes QR codes to streamline cryptocurrency payments. The site is known for hosting a variety of illegal content, further complicating efforts to shut it down.

Potential Ongoing Operations

Initial payments to this network began in July 2022, with activities continuing at least until June 2025. There remains a possibility that the website is still operational, prompting Chainalysis to share information actively with global law enforcement agencies.

Support for Law Enforcement and Compliance Teams

Chainalysis provides extensive support to law enforcement by helping organize and classify vast amounts of data using tools like Chainalysis Reactor and Data Solutions. These tools assist in investigating both site users and administrators. For compliance teams, the increase in alerts related to this network necessitates revisiting CSAM alert thresholds, with Chainalysis offering consultation on interpreting and responding to such activities.

Ongoing Monitoring and Support

Chainalysis continues to monitor cryptocurrency movements related to this illegal CSAM infrastructure, providing partners and clients with the latest information. The company remains committed to combating online child exploitation and supporting the legal pursuit of those responsible.
