Red-hot gaming altcoin Axie Infinity (AXS) is redistributing over $60,000,000 of AXS tokens to players who helped pioneer the project’s launch in 2020.
Since the beginning of this year, Axie Infinity has skyrocketed over 13,000%, with the token seeing wide adoption from crypto enthusiasts and gamers alike.
To celebrate the release of the token’s staking update, AXS co-founder Jeff Zirlin announced on Twitter that the Axie Infinity team will be distributing 800,000 AXS tokens, currently valued at over $60,000,000, to early adopters of the online game.
“Today, we will distribute 800,000 AXS to the missionaries that helped form the bedrock of our digital nation.
This is over 60,000,000 USD worth of tokens and represents our commitment to making sure that Axie becomes a community-owned game.”
With around 58,000,000 tokens currently in circulation, the team plans to release the remaining supply over time through staking, gameplay rewards, and ecosystem reward structures. The max supply is 270,000,000 AXS tokens.
The Axie Infinity team also notified players that users who played Axie Infinity before October 26th of last year should receive tokens from the airdrop.

At time of writing, AXS is trading at $72.90, according to CoinGecko.
