- The Cardano Foundation launched Veridian, an open-source digital identity platform that uses advanced technologies like KERI and ACDC to manage and verify identities securely.
- Veridian enables users to create and control decentralised identifiers (DIDs), eliminating centralised authorities and reducing vulnerability to data breaches.
- Alongside the platform, the Veridian Wallet was introduced to allow users to securely manage credentials, private keys, and identifiers in one place.
The Cardano (ADA) Foundation rolled out Veridian, an innovative open-source digital identity platform designed to empower both individuals and organisations with secure, decentralised identity management solutions.
According to the blog post, Veridian relies on several key advanced technologies, like Key Event Receipt Infrastructure (KERI) and Authentic Chained Data Container (ACDC) credentials, to verify identities. Explained somewhat simply, the first manages digital identities and the second provides a secure and efficient way of issuing and verifying digital credentials, like IDs, diplomas, access passes, etc.

What this framework does is that it allows users to establish and control decentralised identifiers (DIDs), getting rid of centralised authorities and reducing vulnerabilities that have long plagued traditional identity systems, like single points of failure.
As per the press release, the platform’s architecture is designed to ensure that identity verification events are cryptographically secure and tamper-resistant, thereby reducing the risks associated with large-scale data breaches.
Veridian to Take on The Challenge of Decentralised Identifiers
According to Thomas A. Mayfield, Head of Decentralized Trust and Identity Solutions at the Cardano Foundation, Veridian’s features will ensure that users can maintain complete control over their identity:
Veridian offers the flexibility of independent deployment, enabling users to implement infrastructure for their specific needs. This architecture delivers reliable and scalable identity services, prioritizing data privacy. These features ensure individuals can maintain complete control over their identity from their mobile devices.

The launch also introduced the Veridian Wallet, a tool that allows users to manage their credentials, private keys, and identifiers in one place. This wallet is expected to enhance user control and security over digital identities.
