Anthropic’s Claude AI now supports file creation and editing, enhancing user productivity by enabling tasks like spreadsheet creation and document formatting directly within the platform.
Anthropic has announced new capabilities for its AI platform, Claude, which can now create and edit a variety of files, including Excel spreadsheets, documents, PowerPoint slide decks, and PDFs. This update, effective from October 21, 2025, marks a significant enhancement in how users interact with the AI, according to Anthropic.
Enhanced Productivity Features
With this new feature, users can describe their requirements, upload relevant data, and receive ready-to-use files. The file creation capability is currently available for Max, Team, and Enterprise plan users, with Pro users set to gain access in the coming weeks.
Claude’s file creation functionality allows it to generate files from user instructions, whether they involve working from uploaded data, conducting research, or building from scratch. Users can now transform raw data into polished outputs that include statistical analyses, charts, and written insights. Additionally, Claude can construct complex spreadsheets and convert documents across different formats, such as turning PDF reports into PowerPoint presentations.
Operational Mechanism
Claude operates within a private computer environment, enabling it to write code and run programs necessary for producing the required files and analyses. This development transitions Claude from merely an advisor to an active collaborator in project execution, reducing the gap between idea and execution.
Getting Started with File Creation
To utilize this feature, users need to enable ‘Upgraded file creation and analysis’ under the Settings > Features > Experimental section. They can then upload relevant files or describe their needs and guide Claude through the task via chat. The completed files can be downloaded or saved directly to Google Drive.
The introduction of file creation capabilities in Claude is a step forward in making sophisticated multi-step tasks more accessible. However, users are advised to monitor data closely when using this feature to mitigate any potential risks associated with internet access.
