CCP Games has revealed that its upcoming blockchain-based space survival title EVE Frontier will now be developed on the Sui blockchain, a decision that marks a major shift in the game’s technical foundation and long-term vision. The developer confirmed that the transition from its existing EVM testnet to Sui is currently underway, aligning the project with a more scalable and object-oriented architecture.
According to CCP, the move reflects its goal of building a persistent, player-driven universe capable of evolving autonomously. Sui’s structure allows for parallel transaction processing and near-instant finality – capabilities seen as essential for supporting a virtual world composed of thousands of interconnected star systems and countless player-created assets. The blockchain also employs the Move programming language, which CCP says suits the object-based nature of EVE Frontier, where every ship, base, and structure carries its own distinct history and identity.

Aligning Game Design with Blockchain Logic
CCP Games CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson said the company’s mission has always been to “create virtual worlds more meaningful than real life” and that Sui’s design “object-centric approach neatly matches our historic item-centric approach”. The development team added that this migration enables a “player moddable universe” where third-party creators have the same access to build within the ecosystem as CCP itself.

CCP emphasised that as the project continues in open development, these changes are designed to make EVE Frontier a self-sustaining digital world that can endure well into the future.
