  • Bitget COO Vugar Usi Zade believes a broad altcoin rally (“altseason”) is unlikely this cycle due to a lack of major technical breakthroughs.
  • Zade argues the market is shifting to narrow, narrative-led bursts, meaning future gains will cluster around specific themes (e.g. RWA) rather than the entire asset class.
  • The short-term focus of crypto investors and the structure of token releases create intense price stability pressure, making it difficult for projects to build lasting products.

Altcoins are unlikely to stage a blanket rally this cycle, according to Bitget COO Vugar Usi Zade.

Zade, speaking at Token2049, believes the market has moved away from altseason dynamics and toward narrow, narrative-led bursts, arguing that there is simply no fundamental trigger for a market-wide altcoin surge due to a lack of major technical breakthroughs and product milestones.

There haven’t been any technological advancements. We haven’t seen any big things coming out of projects. Why would the price go up? Just because now is the time? It’s not.

Bitcoin now trades on its own track, Zade told Cointelegraph, often rising while most altcoins fall, which undermines the old flow where BTC gains rotated into the long tail.

Zade said any future upside will cluster around specific themes, not the entire asset class. If real-world assets rally, the lift should concentrate on RWA names rather than spill over to unrelated tokens.

Sustainability, he added, remains a deeper challenge, mostly because crypto investors often demand quick results, creating conditions where projects are expected to achieve profitability within months. By contrast, companies such as Amazon took more than a decade to turn profitable. This short-term mindset makes it difficult for crypto ventures to survive long enough to build lasting products.

Isolated Narratives, Not a Synced Market Cycle

Regarding the token structure itself, that just creates additional pressure, Zade said; unlike traditional startups, where early investors can sell to larger funds and keep companies funded, crypto projects release tokens directly to retail markets. That forces teams to manage price stability from the start, since a token collapse can effectively kill the project.

Zade said this dynamic, combined with the lack of new breakthroughs, makes a broad altcoin season highly unlikely, and any future gains, he argued, will be driven by isolated narratives rather than a synchronised market cycle.
