Ripple Labs has committed US$5M (AU$7.66M) to fund blockchain research and cultivating talent across the Asia-Pacific region.
According to a blog post published Tuesday, the funds will be distributed through Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), which already supports universities in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.
In Australia, the total investment amounts to US$1.3M (AU$1.99M) distributed to the Australia National University (ANU) and Victoria University.
At ANU, the renewed funding will support advanced legal coursework on blockchain, cryptocurrency, and digital payments, as well as faculty research centered around Evernode, a proposed Layer 2 smart contract platform for the XRPL. ANU will also continue operating its XRPL validator and publishing student research through the ANU Journal of Law and Technology.

Asia-Pacific has long been a hub of fintech and blockchain innovation, and Ripple has been proud to invest in the region’s academic talent from the very beginning. Seven years into UBRI and with 60 university partners globally, we’ve seen firsthand the impact of long-term, trusted collaboration with these institutions.

The expansion in Asia-Pacific follows Ripple’s recent education grants in the U.S. In May, the company allocated USD 25 million in its RLUSD stablecoin to nonprofit organisations focused on teacher support.
