If you’ve followed the crypto market over the past month, you’ve probably heard of Virtuals Protocol. The AI project, designed to facilitate metaverse and gaming projects on the blockchain, has surged a whopping 7,000% since mid-2024.
Now, the hottest crypto in Web3 is teaming up with Illuvium to create more lifelike NPCs within its immersive gaming ecosystem.

Game-Changing (Literally) AI Collaboration Unleashes New Potential
Illuvium burst onto the scene in 2024 with three separate, yet interoperable games – Overworld, Arena and Zero.
Though the titles span vastly different gaming genres, they exist within the same universe, one that is set to benefit from Virtual Protocol’s AI agents.
The power of AI (particularly LLMs) in gaming hasn’t been fully harnessed yet, but we have started to see more and more of its potential sprinkled through various genres. Just ask the Runescape chatbots!
The integrations are limitless – but for now, adding Virtuals’ G.A.M.E Framework to NPCs will allow organic, realistic interactions within the Illuvium sphere.
No longer will gamers be met with the same “I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee,” from poorly-designed characters.

The power of AI and NPCs isn’t just limited to recreating dialogue. Virtuals’ collab will create a deeper gameplay experience, including more immersive (and natural-feeling) questlines and inter-character relationships.
Of course, there will be limitations to start with. For example, some chatbots have trouble creating distinguishable characters, and the new code could introduce bugs or exploits.
And despite the hype around the Virtuals and Illuvium collab, the game’s developers have been in hot water over their vision for the ecosystem.
