The Hong Kong Monetary Authority warns the public about a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen related to Nanyang Commercial Bank, urging caution against phishing activities.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a cautionary notice to the public concerning a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen associated with Nanyang Commercial Bank, Limited. The alert follows a press release issued by the bank, highlighting the potential risks posed by these deceptive online platforms.

Fraudulent Activities

According to the HKMA, the fraudulent website and login screen were reported to the authority, prompting an immediate warning to the public. The HKMA emphasizes that legitimate banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing users to perform transactions on their websites. Furthermore, banks will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords through phone calls, emails, or SMS.

Public Advisory

The HKMA advises individuals who may have inadvertently provided personal information or conducted financial transactions via the fraudulent website to contact Nanyang Commercial Bank using the contact details provided in their press release. Additionally, affected individuals are urged to report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre by calling 2860 5012.

Preventive Measures

This alert is part of the HKMA’s ongoing efforts to safeguard consumers against phishing scams and other fraudulent activities. The authority underscores the importance of vigilance and verifying the authenticity of communications purportedly from financial institutions.

For further information and updates regarding fraudulent bank websites and scams, individuals are encouraged to visit the HKMA website.
