  • OverTrip, a blockchain-based battle royale game, has launched on PC via the Epic Games Store with its third season, introducing “Skill Mode”, where players can bet real money using the TRIP token.
  • The TRIP token, launched on November 30 via Pump.fun, is used for in-game transactions and skill-mode bets.

OverTrip, a popular third-person battle royale shooter, has launched on PC through the Epic Games Store. This, coinciding with the start of its third content season, introduces a new “skill mode”, allowing players to bet real money on their performance using OverTrip’s new token, TRIP.

The game operates as a multi-chain project, having its TRIP token debuting on Solana and NFTs minted on Ethereum’s mainnet. It also plans to expand to Soneium, an Ethereum layer-2 network developed by Sony and Startale.

The TRIP token, launched via none other than pro-degen platform Pump.fun on November 30, is used for transacting for in-game skins and serves as the currency for the skill mode. However, TRIP has experienced a drop of over 20% in value in the last 24 hours, with its market cap currently at US$5.12M (AU$8.03M).

Adults Only

OverTrip is a blockchain-based battle royale game integrating competitive third-person shooter mechanics with web3 features. It was developed by GGXYZ Studio and backed by Gamestarter.

The gameplay revolves around 20-player matches in a fast-paced, third-person shooter format. Players can choose between Free Mode for casual play and Skill Mode for competitive matches, where their agility and strategy levels will be put to the test. There’s a wide variety of in-game features such as skins, weapons and more.

In skill mode, players can bet amounts ranging from $0.10 to $0.99 on their ability to finish in the top three of a match. Successful bets earn tokens, while losses result in forfeiting the wagered amount.

The SuperVerse token (SUPER) is also set to be integrated into the skill mode, enabling expanding the betting options a bit.

Now that you can officially bet real money in the game, OverTrip has received an “Adults Only” (AO) rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), which is quite hilarious.

Anyway, the latest update also includes private lobbies with customisable wager terms, a new deathmatch mode, and expanded player capacity for battle royale matches, increasing from 20 to 50 participants. Oh, and new skins have been added, so the level of customisation is really noticeable in the game.

An Underwhelming Campaign?

Here’s where it gets… well, sad?

The TRIP token launch involved several distribution strategies, starting with 8% of the token supply being allocated to player rewards via airdrops, while 4.2% was reserved for marketing and another 4% for securing exchange listings and liquidity.

If you feel that’s lower than what most projects have allocated, that’s because it is. Some users in the game’s Discord channel said the allocation percentage was so low that it was not even enough to buy a toy car.

Notably, no formal allocation was made for the development team, although team members could purchase tokens before the announcement. The team has promised to publish an on-chain report breaking down the token’s distribution so there’s full transparency (wink).

Increased Adoption Within the Gaming Sector

Concurrently, other crypto platforms have begun supporting several blockchain-based games and their development and deployment on mobile devices.

I’m talking about Skale Labs, the team behind the Ethereum layer-2 Skale, and Sequence, a blockchain-based game developer. These projects are working on the mobile shoot-’em-up game Zoppel: The Legend of Furiax.

The alpha version of Zoppel, a vertical spaceship shooter, will launch on December 15 on Android and iOS, marking the first project in this collaboration. Based on an original science fiction universe, the game is accompanied by a graphic novel set to ship in January.

After Zoppel, Skale Labs and Sequence plan to support additional games on the Skale network, including Sheertopia, The Last Monarchy, Netherrack Demons and Olderfall.

The collaboration aims to integrate Sequence Builder tools with Skale’s Nebula mainnet to streamline game development and enhance the gaming experience.
