- The popularity of sports management simulator games is coming to the blockchain in a collaboration with FIFA and Mythical Games.
- The new title will mix management-style games where you create a team through trading cards, alongside real-time soccer matches against other players.
- The development team plans to introduce an esports component to build the gaming community.
- NFTs are “optional” to play the free game on iOS and Android, however, the mechanics of how FIFA Rivals will work is yet to be fully revealed.
Managing your own sports team is every sports fan’s dream. We all know someone who thinks they could do a better job than some of the current GMs – if only they had the hundreds of millions of dollars it costs to buy a team.
Well, those dreams might be answered with an upcoming venture between FIFA and Mythical Games.
The new title, called FIFA Rivals, is coming to smartphones in 2025 and will allow players to build out their clubs and compete against other gamers.

FIFA Rivals Will Allow Players to Build their Dream Teams Using Digital Trading Cards
The collaboration will rely heavily upon the blockchain network to accommodate the sale of optional NFTs.
These NFTs will be built using the Mythos blockchain, a network based on Polkadot’s technology.
Players can collect these NFTs of soccer (sorry to our European readers) stars past and present to assemble their dream team and beat opposition “managers”.
In the official teaser posted to X (formerly Twitter), little is revealed about the fundamental gameplay mechanics of FIFA Rivals.
However, Mythical Games has worked on a similar title before – NFL Rivals, which has amassed a player base of over 6 million since its launch in 2023.
Based on this, FIFA Rivals fans can expect real-time action paired with a management simulation and collection experience.
FIFA Rivals to Build Esports Scene for Top Competitors
Mythical intends for FIFA Rivals to become a fully-fledged esports title, presenting earning opportunities to the top “managers” and players as both an incentive to onboard new players and build the community.
We are excited to partner with FIFA and leverage our expertise to create an unparalleled football gaming experience…Our goal is to replicate our success with the previous Rivals game and set new benchmarks in the Web3 gaming sector.
NFTs have found a niche within the sports sector, thanks to the prevalence of trading cards – particularly when it comes to gaming.
FIFA itself also has a history with digital collectibles, releasing an NFT trading platform on Algorand and Polygon for soccer fans wanting to buy packs of virtual trading cards.
