  • Polymarket bettors speculate that Len Sassaman, a late cryptographer dedicated to privacy and decentralisation, is Satoshi Nakamoto.
  • Sassaman’s death in 2011 coincides with Satoshi’s disappearance from online forums, adding to the theory, though there is no definitive proof linking him to Bitcoin.
  • Polymarket bettors predict that Satoshi’s identity will likely remain unknown, with an 89% chance that no definitive proof will emerge in 2024.

There is growing speculation that an American technologist named Len Sassaman, who was obsessed with privacy and cryptography, was the person behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.

As Crypto News Australia reported, HBO’s recent documentary called Money Electric: The Bitcoin History seeks to answer crypto’s biggest mystery: who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

Polymarket Bets on Sassaman

On the prediction platform Polymarket, bettors believe the film may suggest that Sassaman is Satoshi. Sassaman’s dedication to privacy and decentralisation through his academic work makes him a potential candidate.

Sassaman tragically passed away in 2011, by suicide, according to Sassaman’s spouse Meredith L. Patterson. Apparently, the cryptographer constantly battled with depression and neurological disorders. The timing of his death also coincides with Satoshi’s disappearance from social media and public forums. He was particularly active on BitcoinTalk.

Crypto’s Biggest Mystery

Satoshi’s identity has been a topic of debate since Bitcoin was born, although all research and investigation attempts on it have failed.

Past efforts to unmask Satoshi have been controversial. In 2014, Newsweek claimed that Dorian Nakamoto, a Japanese-American engineer, was the creator of Bitcoin. Despite some initial ambiguous statements, Nakamoto later denied any connection to Bitcoin through a formal legal statement.

And no, Craig Wright is not behind Bitcoin either.

While the documentary might have revived interest in the mystery, Polymarket bettors believe Nakamoto’s identity will remain elusive, with an 89% chance that no definitive proof will emerge in 2024.

There’s no conclusive evidence linking Sassman directly to Satoshi Nakamoto, and for now, it’s just speculation and coincidences. We will have to wait and see what this new documentary brings to the table. However, some members of Crypto Twitter hold the notion that even if a name is revealed, it could be someone outside the crypto space, or even suggest multiple creators.
