  • John E. Deaton is challenging Senator Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, leveraging his recognition in the crypto community.
  • Deaton aims to diversify his campaign beyond crypto advocacy, positioning himself as a defender of the middle class.
  • He has the full support of the crypto industry, but Warren has deep pockets.

John E. Deaton is probably one of the most well-known lawyers in the crypto space through his work during the case of the US Securities and Exchange Commission against Ripple, where Deaton represented over 76,000 XRP holders.

He may be less known in the world outside of crypto and especially in his new home state of Massachusetts, but it is here where he will challenge another figure well-known by crypto holders: Senator Elizabeth Warren, (D-Mass).

Warren has long been opposed to crypto, which has resulted in a lot of criticism from the industry, including Deaton. Seeing that Warren had no significant challengers in the state of Massachusetts, Deaton decided he would move here from Rhode Island where he lived until recently.

First, it was schoolyard bullies, then it was greedy corporations and the SEC, and now I am taking on the Washington elites.

Warren Lashes Out at Deaton

Deaton, who has the support of the crypto community but is not linked to any particular lobby group, already had to deflect Warren’s accusations. The Senator claimed Deaton was recruited by the Republican party and “special interest groups.”

Deaton replied saying not only did no one hire him to run for office but he is also looking forward to thorough discussions of topics that matter to people—and he specifically did not mention crypto.

It seems Deaton is making sure his campaign is not seen as a sole crypto mission and he appears to position himself as a defender of the middle class.

I fought for the little guy. I took on the greedy corporations and the heartless insurance companies and I won. I am running for U.S. Senate to continue my life’s mission to shake things up for the people who need it most.

John E. Deaton

It remains to be seen if this lawyer and ex-marine will be able to stand a chance against a long-term politician with deep pockets to finance her campaign. But it is a fight not only for the middle class but also for a fairer go for crypto in the United States.

He can be assured that he has the backing of the industry behind him, including many heavyweights.

John Deaton @JohnEDeaton1 is now at tip of thespear in fight to keep United States the world’s leader in financial services. We have to help him and we will. @DeatonforSenate
